The residents of Geauga County elected Joe Cattell, PE, PS as the County Engineer in November of 2012, and took office in January 2013. Joe was re-elected as the County Engineer in 2016.

Becoming an Engineer
Joe Cattell grew up in Eastlake, Ohio. During his school years, Joe excelled in the math and science subjects. He decided to become a civil engineer because of his expertise in the math and science subjects, as well as the passion he had for building things. In 1993, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cleveland State University. Joe returned to college in 1995 to earn his surveying license. In 1999, Joe became a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Ohio. In 2002, he became a registered Professional Surveyor (PS) in the state of Ohio.
Family Life
Joe has one daughter and two sons. His daughter is currently teaching at the University Of Indiana, while simultaneously obtaining her Ph.D. His oldest son earned two Associate’s Degrees while he was in high school, and is currently in the U.S. Army as an Air Defense Battle Management System Operator, soon returning to college to become a commercial pilot. Joe’s youngest son is currently serving in the U.S. Army full time.
While Joe does not have any pets at the moment, he used to have pet dogs for many years. He does, however, take every advantage to pet any dog that crosses his path.
